5 Most Common Requirements For Graduate Program Applications

Hey there, here are some tips on application requirements for graduate programs in the United States.

 

1. Statement of Purpose

Popularly referred to as SOP, this is a detailed write-up of your dreams and aspirations regarding graduate school. It is more about why and how you want to achieve your goals. Do some research about the school, this will come in handy!

2. Transcript and Degree Evaluation

This proves that you have a degree before applying for a graduate degree. Some schools accept unofficial transcripts (this could be a student copy you have, required to scan for admission purposes only) while some want an official copy directly from your school. Asides from submitting your transcript to the school, some schools now request for your transcript to be evaluated by World Education Services (WES) during the admission process.

3.  Recommendation

 This varies by program; some accept two recommendation letters while some accept three or more recommendation letters.  Make sure you inform your recommenders early enough and use their most used emails in your application.

 

4. Standardized Test Scores

Test scores could be TOEFL, IELTS, and GRE

Also, vary by program and school. Some programs waive test scores for admission due to COVID-19. TOEFL and IELTS are mostly waived for countries with English as the official language.

 

5. Application Fees

This varies by school and with COVID-19, some are waiving application fees for international students. Please do your research well and if you are not sure, you can send an email to the graduate school for further clarifications.
